White water kayaking combines technical paddling, quick thinking and plenty of adventure. From learning how to control your kayak in gentle flowing water to navigating rapids and more challenging river environments, it’s an exciting way to build confidence and develop your paddling skills.

At Stirling & Falkirk Canoe Club, our white water paddlers enjoy access to some of Scotland’s best rivers, with opportunities suitable for developing paddlers as well as more experienced club members.

What to expect

White water sessions and trips can include:

  • Learning essential boat control and river skills
  • Practising breaking in and out of moving water
  • Reading river features and choosing safe lines
  • Developing rescue and safety techniques
  • Paddling rivers with other club members
  • Progressing towards more challenging water as your skills improve

Trips are organised according to river levels, weather conditions and the experience of those attending.

Is white water kayaking for me?

White water kayaking is ideal for anyone who enjoys an active challenge and wants to develop strong technical skills. You don’t need to be an expert to get involved, but you should be comfortable in and around water and willing to learn in a supportive group environment.

New paddlers can begin by developing their confidence and core skills before progressing onto moving water.

Training and progression

The club provides opportunities to learn from experienced paddlers, take part in organised sessions and build experience at a pace that suits you.

As you progress, you can develop your river-running skills, improve your decision-making and work towards recognised paddlesport awards and qualifications.
