Canoeing is a versatile and sociable way to enjoy Scotland’s lochs, canals and rivers. Canoes can be paddled solo or with a partner and are ideal for relaxed days on the water, family adventures, longer journeys and multi-day expeditions.

At Stirling & Falkirk Canoe Club, canoeing offers the chance to build practical paddling skills while exploring some of the fantastic waterways on our doorstep and further afield.

Is canoeing for me?

Canoeing is suitable for complete beginners, families, social paddlers and experienced adventurers alike.

Its stable and adaptable nature makes it a particularly accessible introduction to paddlesport. It also offers plenty of opportunity to progress into technical paddling, moving water, wilderness journeys or coaching.

Training and progression

Club sessions provide opportunities to learn the fundamentals, practise your skills and gain experience alongside other paddlers.

You can develop your confidence in both tandem and solo boats, learn journey-planning and safety skills, and work towards recognised paddlesport awards and qualifications.

What you’ll need

Depending on the activity, equipment may include:

  • An open canoe
  • Single-bladed paddle
  • Buoyancy aid
  • Appropriate clothing and footwear
  • Dry bags for personal equipment
  • Additional safety equipment for longer journeys

Club equipment may be available for introductory and organised sessions. Details will be provided before each activity.
