Sea kayaking offers a unique way to explore Scotland’s spectacular coastline. From sheltered bays and peaceful sea lochs to island journeys and more exposed coastal adventures, every trip provides a different experience.

Stirling & Falkirk Canoe Club brings together paddlers who enjoy exploring from the water, developing their skills and sharing memorable days in some of Scotland’s most beautiful places.

What to expect

Sea kayaking activities can include:

  • Paddling on sheltered coastal water and sea lochs
  • Learning efficient forward paddling and boat control
  • Practising rescues and safety skills
  • Planning journeys around weather, tides and conditions
  • Exploring coastlines, islands and wildlife
  • Day trips and longer expeditions
  • Progressing to more challenging open-water environments

All trips are planned around the conditions and the experience of the group.

Is sea kayaking for me?

Sea kayaking is suited to anyone who enjoys exploring, being outdoors and spending time on the water.

Beginners can start on sheltered water while developing confidence and essential skills. More experienced paddlers can take part in longer journeys and trips involving tides, navigation and more varied conditions.

A reasonable level of fitness is helpful, but trips vary considerably in length and difficulty.

The club offers opportunities to build confidence through organised sessions, peer support and journeys with more experienced paddlers.

What you’ll need

Equipment for sea kayaking may include:

  • A suitable sea kayak
  • Paddle
  • Buoyancy aid
  • Spray deck
  • Appropriate paddling clothing
  • Safety and rescue equipment
  • Food, water and spare clothing for longer trips

Club equipment may be available for certain introductory or organised activities. Trip leaders will explain what is required before setting out.
